All we know about the release of the third season of ‘Euphoria’
The third season of ‘Euphoria’ marks a radical turn with a time jump, absences in the cast and characters facing adulthood with its expected release this Sunday.
Since its release in 2019, ‘Euphoria’ has positioned itself as one of the most watched and recognized series on HBO. It quickly became a phenomenon that marked an entire generation with its visually stunning aesthetic, iconic looks, and characteristic use of glitter. All this has consolidated it as one of the most commented productions in recent years. Now, after a long wait by fans, the third season arrives this Sunday, April 12th on HBO at 7 pm, generating enormous expectation.
The series, starring international stars like Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney, returns after the release of its second season in 2021. Before the debut of the first episode of this new installment, it’s worth remembering that the story left its characters at a critical point.
In the second season, Rue hit rock bottom after a severe relapse that led her to run away from home and face extreme situations, to later start a sobriety process full of uncertainty. The conflict between Nate, Cassie, and Maddy exploded in a public and violent manner, leaving relationships completely fractured. At the same time, Lexi’s play brought to light the most intimate secrets of her close circle, generating tensions difficult to repair, and finally, Fezco was involved in a conflict with the police that marked a tragedy.
The return of ‘Euphoria’ and which characters return
After a long wait, the third season of Euphoria arrives with a significant change. As its creator, Sam Levinson, has commented in various media, this new installment includes a time jump that places the characters several years after the known events. This turn marks an important difference, as the story leaves behind high school to focus on a more mature stage, which is adulthood and the real consequences of the decisions they made in their youth.
The return of Euphoria maintains much of its main cast, which allows the series to conserve its essence. Zendaya reprises her role as Rue Bennett, consolidating herself as the emotional axis of the story, while Hunter Schafer returns as Jules, delving deeper into her personal evolution. Jacob Elordi returns as Nate Jacobs, one of the most complex and disturbing characters, and Sydney Sweeney continues to play Cassie Howard.
Alexa Demie also returns as Maddy Perez and Maude Apatow as Lexi Howard, who will continue to develop the stories that were left open in the second season. They are joined by Nika King as Leslie Bennett, Rue’s mother, and Colman Domingo as Ali. Additionally, Eric Dane appears again as Cal Jacobs, in what has been indicated as one of his last works and a particularly emotional moment for the series’ fans after his passing on February 19, 2026.
However, the new season is also marked by significant absences that redefine the narrative direction. The death of Angus Cloud represents a significant loss for both the series and its fans. His character, Fezco, was one of the audience’s favorites, but Sam Levinson mentioned that he will be present in the series in one way or another. This is added to the departure of Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat, as well as the absence of Storm Reid, who played Gia, Rue’s younger sister. Ashtray, played by Javon Walton, is also left out.
What to expect from the third season of ‘Euphoria’ and RosalĂa’s debut
The third season of Euphoria delves into a darker and more complex terrain, where characters face the consequences of their actions with maturity and the experiences they’ve lived. Rue, now in a much more dangerous context, deals with situations that put her on the edge of survival, in a stage where the implications are much more serious.
Jules, on the other hand, continues to explore her life and her relationship with Rue, in a dynamic that remains emotional but more distant and reflective. Cassie remains in a relationship with Nate, and there are expectations about a possible wedding, while Maddy tries to rebuild herself, regain control of her life, and open up to new experiences. Meanwhile, Lexi evolves into a more self-aware figure, now focused on her creative development, working in the film industry as a writer.
Regarding new additions, RosalĂa’s presence has generated great expectation among fans. Although her character has not been officially detailed, it is known that she will have a role within the series’ universe. Similarly, the participation of actress Sharon Stone and influencer Trisha Paytas has been reported.
